Tess is a stretch as a nn for Esther, imo.

I actually love it! Which is odd, because I really dislike Rachel. But it's gorgeous. I think the use of Tess helps. Tess Rachel has such a nice ring to it.

Responsible, pretty, old-school biblical combo. Tess is totally logical for Esther... don't see how anyone thinks it's a stretch lol

If I wanted a Tess, there's no way I'd use Esther. Tess is not the least intuitive as a nickname for Esther. You might say the same for a few other nicknames, such as Peggy for Margaret and Patsy for Martha, but they at least do have a history as nicknames for those names. The only way I would do this is if Esther were honoring, and I hated it, (which I actually do), and was determined to find a nickname for every day use rather than the name I hated. My stepmother actually did that when she decided to call her son Harry III Hutch .

Well, I'd rather be an Esther than a Tess, but if I had to use a nn for Esther, I'd pick Tess over Essie or Estie or Ettie without a second thought.

Both names, Esther and Rachel, are nice on their own, but together they give a very strong impression of a Jewish family, which is fine, but since I don't know if your Tess's family is Jewish, I can't say whether that was done on purpose. It's something to be aware of.
