I wouldn't call it cheesy or beautiful. It's short and un-frilly, and fairly nice on the people I've met with it. It does sound a little like 'face' with a lisp though, and might be hard for small kids to say.
I wouldn't assume any religious baggage, but I don't live in a very religious country and only one of the multiple people with the name who I've met had it for those reasons.
