[Opinions] Re: 21 Old Fashioned Nicknames for Girls That Make Charming First Names
in reply to a message by queenv
I like:
Libby (nn for Elizabeth)
Sukie (nn for Susan or Susannah)
Tessie (nn for Theresa)
Georgie (nn for Georgia, Georgina, Georgiana, or Georgette)
Mellie (nn for Melody, Millicent, Carmela, or Melanie)
Trixie (nn for Beatrix, Beatrice, or Patricia)
Lottie (nn for Charlotte)
I don't mind:
Polly (nn for Mary -- and that's my own contribution. Cafe Mom just says it's a variation of Molly, but it and Molly both started out as nicknames for Mary.)
Letty (nn for Letitia, Lettice, or Violetta)
Winnie (nn for Winifred, Winona, Edwina, Gwendolyn, or Rowena)
Essie (nn for Estelle, Estella, and Esther)
Billie (Cafe Mom doesn't say what this would be a nickname for, but I'd say Wilhelmina)
Hattie (nn for Harriet or Henrietta)
Effie (nn for Euphemia)
I dislike/hate:
Bizzy (nn for Beatrice or Elizabeth)
Birdie (nn for Beatrice, Elizabeth, Bridget, or Bertha)
Flossie (nn for Florence)
Tibby (nn for Tabitha)
Goldie (it doesn't say what this would actually be a nickname for. Maybe Golda?)
Dovie (nn for Deborah)
Dillie (nn for Delilah, Cordelia, Dahlia, Daffodil, or Odelia)
The only ones that could actually stand on their own are Polly and Trixie, and maybe Libby.
If I had to name a daughter one of these, it'd be either Libby for Elizabeth, Georgie for Georgiana, or Lottie for Charlotte.
