[Opinions] Sappho vs. Dido
I adore both names, but most people abhor them. So, I'm curious -- which would you choose if you had no other choices?

I'd probably pick Sappho. I hate the sound of Dido. There's a singer named Dido, and while I do like her music, I still think it's a strange name. Dido even admitted in interviews that she hated her name when she was growing up.

DidoBecause Sappho is far too close (in my mind) to sapphic. And that's more of a no-no for me than Dido. A plus, the singer is gorgeous and has a gorgeous voice!

Both sound horrible, but I'd go with Sappho over Dido.I originally misread Dido as dildo when I read the subject.

Sappho.Dido would be called dildo in the US.Sappho could have Sapphie as a nickname ... not too far off from the ubiquitous Sophie.

i'm a lesbian, so if i (and so my future wife too) used Sappho, we'd look like some awful sitcom joke, and the kid would never hear the end of it... yet it's also temping to use as a joke against straight people who can't handle someone being *too* gay, as well as a celebration of ourselves...also in the lgbt community, there's a current trend of people trying to make the word "sapphic" a thing, to refer to both lesbians and bisexual women, and some people hate it, while others exclusively use that word. i'd still use it over Dido though, because it sounds like...yknow, that word...also the meaning is so depressing. imagine looking up your name and it's THAT story...also Sappho was an admirable person and artist so ya

Dido, I really like the sound and the look.

Sappho. I like the sound and the reference more. Dido reminds me of "Fido" and "dildo."

DidoI like both, but I think Dido is more usable.

Personally I like Sappho more, but the world is way too homophobic, so I guess it would be easier to live with the name Dido (although her alternative name, Elissa, is much cuter!).

Sappho is great! The poet is cool and Sapphy is a good nickname. I don't like the sound of Dido.

Dido. Sure, there is the "dildo" thing, but she's also a very pretty singer. So, yeah.

Sappho. Dido makes me think of a sex toy.

Probably Sappho. I may just be immature, but I think Dido is too close to another word that wouldn't be pleasant to be called.

I love them both but slightly prefer Sappho. I had a cat called Dido. ..

DidoHi !!!Dido is better in my opinion.I know better her history than Sappho's one. After that Dido was a noble Queen and she met Aeneas that in mythology is very important for Italy.I'm fascinated by tragedies and I remember that her 'chapters' were beautiful. Finally I like the singer called Dido.

I guess I'd just go full dyke and pick Sappho.

Dido, despite its similarities to “dildo”; Sappho is too close to sapphic for my tastes, though it is gorgeous.

Definitely SapphoAlthough I don't find either to be amazing by any means, Sappho is the much better choice, in my opinion. I definitely prefer the look and sound of it more.I keep wanting to pronounce Dido the same as when someone agrees to something. Also, its only one letter absent of being 'Dildo' No thank you...

Sappho, all though I do like Sapphira and Sapphire. Plus that is what it means.
