I like the idea of Flora and the general sound of Flora and it should be enchanting but for some reason it's not.

It makes me think of fluoride, floral arrangements, floors, oral, auras, aural, and flora.

I adore the name Flora and have never thought of it in medical terms like that. Then again all things medical gross me out and I just stop listening/reading usually. I don't think it would stop me from using it unless maybe I'm from a family filled with doctors and nurses that will make the comparison.

I like Flora too.

I highly doubt people will think of the medical terms. If anything, they'll probably think of Disney's Sleeping Beauty (since one of the fairies in it is named Flora).

I didn't know it was a medical terminology and I'm guessing that most people who are not in the medical field will. I wouldn't mind it if it were my name because like you said it's an already established name. Flora makes me think of spring and the Roman goddess of flowers. I'm also sometimes reminded of Sleeping Beauty but that was actually my least watched Disney princess movie as a child. I like the association, however.

I've heard the butter reference too but it doesn't bother me because I'm in the US. Flora is pretty high up on my list and I think it's very usable. I don't think I will ever have a daughter named Flora though. I have combo I LOVE but I think it's just because of the MN I have her paired with. My SO doesn't love her either. It's great name overall and I'd love to see it used!

I don't mind nice organic intestinal flora one bit. But I do mind the revolting margarine.

I don't think it would come up that much, and I doubt most people would make that association. I didn't. (And I love Flora.) Maybe it's different for medical professionals - my nurse aunt told my mom not to name me Amber because they used it as a descriptor for urine samples. My mom didn't name me Amber, but I don't imagine most Ambers face frequent pee jokes or anything.

I know several Flora s my own age, and a couple of little ones. I've never even made the connection....!

I think Flora is a lovely name. Mind you I also went to school with a girl called Candida, and nobody thought twice about it

The medical term is not my first thought when I hear the name, I just think of flowers. It's lovely and definitely usable.

I don't think that the medical terminology is an issue. I don't think it would occur to anyone.

I don't like Flora because it seems silly to me. And here I know that I'm influenced by "Sleeping Beauty", but it sounds like the name of a fairy. But then it's a paradox, because in addition to sounding silly and like the name of a fairy, it also seems clunky and thus very un-fairylike to me. Go figure. Be that as it may, neither image is a good one, so I don't like the name.

I love Flora and am not at all bothered by the medical association, which is not that prominent.

I love Flora! I'd use it as a nickname for Florence but I quite like it as a standalone name too. I never think about Flora as a medical term, Flora only makes me think of flowers. And I'd love to have been named Flora, It's so pretty!

I don't think it suggests eubacteria too much to use it if you love it. Even if it did, stomach flora are good for you. I also like Fleur.

I don't think Flora in that sense since it's an established name. I mean, Mark is a verb, but how often do you think of that when you hear it?
