I have a cousin named Hollis who was born in the early 80s. I loved her name when I was a child: it seemed so unique then, and I still like the sound/meaning. I also like Wallis and Holly.
I didn't know it was primarily a masculine name until later; it comes across as off-puttingly straitlaced when I imagine it on a guy. I think of it like a combination of Holland and Wallace, in that context...I dislike Holland but would prefer that over Hollis for a boy.
