[Opinions] Morgana
I'm not planning to use this name but I just remembered the name Morgana again. I hardly ever see this name actually used. What do you think of it?

I remember reading somewhere that Morgana/Morgan LeFey was originally a good character, ferrying Arthur to Avalon as he lay dying after the Battle of Camlann, but monks later did everything they could to villify her because she was a witch, though a good one, and a strong female to boot.
I like Morgana and Morgan. For Morgana, maybe the nn Gana (GAH-nah or GAN-ah). As an affectionate, passing nn, not like, for example, "I'm Caroline, but just call me Carrie." Hope I'm understandable. ^_^

I like it, but don't love it. It's much better than Morgan on a girl, anyway.
I love it it was on my favorites for a while...
I think it sounds romantic
Since I am reminded of Morgan Le Fay. And Morgan is a boy's name to me, so I prefer Morgana for a girl.

LeFey
She was a very powerful woman, and mostly for herself. Of course the name wouldn't be used. I love it, but its so dramatic that I might not use it.

I think I like it better than Morgan but I wouldn't use it...is it pronouced Morg-uh-na or Morg-an-ah?
thanks :) it has always puzzled me because I have never actually met a Morgana, but it looks quite nice on paper but I wasn't quite sure of the pronounciation
I think it's hardly used because of the unfortunate association with the evil witch Morgana Le Fay :-)
I admit, it does sound pretty though. I prefer Morgan but it's so overdone and Morgana would be a nice alternative. But I can't even say the name anymore without it sounding... I dunno - evil.
How odd.

Who is Morgana Le Fay?
King Arthur's... half sister was it? They had a son Mordred and then they all killed each other or something.
My knowledge of these legends isn't the best as all I know about them has been from a combination of movies. Siri seems to know more.
PS: Yes, Morgana is villified in every Arthur-related movie and unfortunately, I haven't had time to read the books (though I do own Le Morte de Artur (sp?), other books have been higher priority reading for me lol), and so that is the image I have of Morgana. Well, I take that back a bit - didn't Julianne Marguiles play a nicer Morgana once? Mists of Avalon, I think it was called.
edit: Personally, I've always been more into the stories of the knights and Guinevere myself. Arthur bores me most (but still fascinating!), because he's everywhere.

Morgaine
I think in the Mists of Avalon her name was Morgaine but it's been so long since I've read it. But yes, much nicer story, since it was told from her point of view as a priestess trying to preserve the old religion in Western Europe...

On Morrigan...
There's a girl in my Macroeconomics class with this name :-) lol, I thought I heard it wrong at first but after the first few weeks I realized it is Morrigan!
The hounds of Morrigan instantly spring to mind and this girl does not look like a Morrigan at all - petite, frail, wispy blonde, soft-spoken... very unfitting, imo.
But I agree lol, I'd never use it myself either!

I think the 'm' was a typo.

Makes sense. But some people do blend the sounds so I couldn't be sure. My friend Sally has a very nasally English accent and I can't tell the difference between mum and none when she says them :o
