[Opinions] Elmer
I have a pen pal called Elmer. I think it looks okay written down, but out loud I don't like the pronunciation, as it sounds like the name Alma, which is quite feminine. I have never met a male with this name before I met him. Wdyt of it?http://www.behindthename.com/pnl/170369

It was my great-grandfather's name. Actually, he named his first daughter Alma Mary, but she was called Mickie. She was gorgeous!

I like Elmer. It sounds like Alma a bit, I think it depends on your accent, but I've never noticed it before and I don't think it'll change my liking for this name. It also does remind me of that elephant, but not so much that it bothers me.

I don't think it sounds like Alma (a name I love). I don't like Elmer at all. I think of Elmer Fudd and Elmer the Patchwork Elephant.

It sounds quite different from Alma, in my accent, at least. It's very nerdy and somewhat comical, due to Elmer Fudd, IMO. Also I just think of Elmer's glue.

Around here Elmer is not all that uncommon, but it is strictly an old man's name. You aren't likely to meet one under seventy unless he was named after his dad.
I think it's awful. Fudd and glue.

I love it! It's so soft and gentle. Elm is a cute nickname.

I love the name Elmer! Though, I doubt I'd ever use it (even as a middle name). There is just something about the way you say it I can't put my finger on but there isn't enough definition on the letters like in Hector or Edward for example.

I don't think it sounds too much like Alma in English. It is similar, but not so much I'd confuse it with Alma.
I wouldn't use the name myself, but it is a nice name.
