[Opinions] Asia and China (more)
I met a girl named China recently as well as one named Asya (she was Russian and it was pronounced AHZ-ya so I don't think it has anything to do with the continent). In any case it made me wonder what you think of Asia and China as names and what you think of Asya as well. Do you consider them to be tacky? Weird? Creative? Tell me anything that comes to mind :)

Hi Perrine !!!I don't know why...
But Asia (AH-zya or AH-sya) is extremely popular here in Italy. It is #35 for babies in 2015 with 1348 Asia!
It is mostly used by Italians! There is a celebrity with this name.
She is Asia Argento (1975-) daughter of well-known director Dario Argento who is herself an actress and director.I think that she is the first with this name (or nearly) because all Asia I've met are under 40 especially born in 1990s and after. But I don't think that Argento is the reason why of this peak. The East always fascinated everyone. But here in Italy the law used to forbid foreign names until mid-1960s for sure. I don't know if Asia was used anyway or it didn't exist as given name...I judge Asia tacky used by Italians and it is the same with a name that is trendy in these years: Siria / Syria (Used by Italians). I don't know why it is so trendy (I know that it could be an astrological tie but it is very weak in this case) I met at least three Syria with total Italian ancestry. Just horrible imo. My judge is not for all names but only for these ones (geographical ones). If a person has that ancestry (or has lived in that area, or his/her parents lived in that area) so its ok. But it would be nonsense in other cases. The love for a certain cultures or country can be given in other ways such given names from that languages (also MNs if it seems too strange).Anyway in my opinion people could give their children every name they want.

Asya is nice. I also like other Russian diminutives, Misha, Olya, Masha, and more.I don't like Asia or China, they sound stripperish and classless

I think using country names, continent names or other Place names should be used with a certain modesty if you don't have a connection to said place.
If we take me as an example: I am from the Nordics. For me it would be natural, if I would want to use these types of names, to either name my kids Dane, Denmark, Norvegia (Norge or Norway sounds horrible), Svea (Sverige and Sweden sounds ugh too), Finn, Suoma, Suomi, Scandinavia or simply, Nordic. Names like Sápmi or Greenland I would pesonally consider to be highly inappropriote due to my lack of native ancestry from these areas. China would be a cute name for someone with roots from China, but tacky on me. Asia is a bit more general, so it would suit well on a larger group of People.
