[Opinions] Pokémon
Pokémon has been getting a bit of a revival over the past year or so. I think there are some names of pokémon from the first two generations that could work as names:
MALE
Spearow
Shellder
Onix
Rhydon
Scyther
Tyrouge
Entei
FEMALE
Ivysaur
Kakuna
Paras
Abra
Starmie
Eevee
Quilava
EITHER
Persian
Chansey
Bayleef
Ledian
Ariados
Xatu
Mantine
Raikou
Okay so some of those are a bit of a stretch and others are based on real words that could already be in use as names. My questions are:
1. Do you think there'll be a rise in popularity of any of these pokémon-related names? Do you think you'll ever meet someone with one of these names?
2. Would you use any if they weren't names of pokémon? Would you use any knowing that they are names of pokémon?
Bonus Question. Are there any other pokémon names that could work as names either from later generations or that I missed?
Personally, I have a soft spot for Spearow as a word and would possibly consider using it as a name if it wasn't a pokémon. Rhydon, Tyrouge and Chansey to some extent too. Don't get me wrong, I would groan inside and post about it on here if I did hear of a poké-name in real life; I'm just saying I like the words and they sound namey. However, I do believe that it's only a matter of time until I meet a real life Eevee...

Of the names you listed, I think Abra works as a name, actually Abhra is one of my favourite names, it's masculine however, and pronounced AH-bruh.
Evie is super popular, I wouldn't be surprised if there is a Eevee out there.
Rhydon also sounds on trend, I could see people using that, but probably not because of Pokemon.
Unlike other fads like Twilight that people think it's a great idea to name your children after, I don't know that Pokemon will have an uptick of 90's nostalgia freaks naming their kids after Pokemon (except maybe like Ash or Jessie or James), I mean, they are monsters.

I would never name my kid after a Pokémon, but I think these could work with little trouble:
Abra
Onix
Eevee
Paras
Chansey
Persian
I have also heard of Tangela used as a name but it’s pronounced to rhyme with Angela.

12 girls in the UK were named Eevee last year. I have a feeling it may have made the charts before that, too.

I honestly thought this was going to be a thread about names of the human characters. (The series has lots of great names for the human characters.)

Hi !!!
I love Pokemon since I was a child.
I was very keen on them.
But I saw only the fisrt generation of them (001-151).
In my mind these are only the ral ones.
1 I don't know if they are popular.
Here in Italy fictional names are forbidden as FNs so I'm sure I will never meet a Pikachu or a Bulbasaur TT
2 They are too related with Pokemon to miss that link. So the only way to use it is because of the same Pokemon. I think I would not use them anyway.
On a pet maybe it would be nice.
In general the names of Pokemon I would use (on people/pets/all you want) are...
MALES
Charmander*
Charmeleon*
Charizard*
Pikachu*
Diglett*
Growlithe*
Golem
Onix*
Cubone
Rhyhorn
Tauros
Flareon
Jolteon
Vaporeon*
Zapdos
Moltres*
Articuno
FEMALES
Butterfree*
Clefairy
Vulpix*
Jigglypuff*
Persian
Chansey
Horsea*
Seadra
Goldeen
Starmie
Lapras*
EITHER
Arbok (Yes I know it is kobra at reverse)
Paras
Abra
Bellsprout
Eevee*
Mew*
FEW FROM SECOND GENERATION
Chikorita (unisex)
Cyndaquil (m)
Ampharos (m)
Merill (f)
Hoppip (m)
Jumpluff (m)
Sunflora* (f)
Mantine* (f)
Skarmony* (m)
Lugia (m)
Suikun* (unisex)
* these are my super-favourite.
WDYT?

Actually some of those would be cute (though nerdy) on a pet. I think Charmander, Growlithe and Vulpix would be my picks for pets =)
