Hi !!!
I currently think that's a beautiful Irish name.

There's a good radio news journalist where I live who's Tara, pronounced TAHra. I wouldn't have given it a thought before she hit the airwaves, but now I think it's not too bad at all. Still Oirish-geographical, though, which is a big No.
I pronounce it TAH-ra too (I am in the UK though)
I don't think it's boring. It's simple and pretty.
Tara Ellen
Tara Claire
Tara Naomi
Tara Jane
Tara Anneliese
Tara Sophie
Tara Natalie
Tara Simone
Tara Lily
Tara Victoria
Tara Melanie
Tara Aisling

Maybe you associate it with Tara Lipinski a little bit.
I always ask how to say it, because I've had friends Tara who pronounce it each way (Tah-ra, Tair-a). I don't really have a preference for the pronunciation but I guess Lipinski does make Tah-ra seem more glittery.
It has a fragile quality, that almost all T names have for me. So I don't like it a lot. But I don't dislike it. Yes, it's dated. It's alright, it's just kind of more everyday now than it seemed originally - kind of along the same lines as Tracy or Tanya.

In the US, Tara is almost always pronounced Tare-uh. Tah-Rah would seem pretentious, like to-mah-to or vahz for tomato and vase.
I never liked it; it feels like a bratty kid throwing a tantrum in the mall.

Aw, I say to-mah-to.More t'-mah-to, actually. I had an aunt who use to try to make me say vahz, but I wouldn't.
