By coincidence, I just saw this name on the name tag of a store clerk today. I've never seen the name before in my life, at least not that I've noticed. I've only seen Shantae. I've dealt with the clerk before, but her nametag was hanging backwards. When I saw it I was kind of shocked, because I remembered your post here. The clerk is a blue-eyed American with no accent by the way, probably in her late thirties. I don't really *like* the name the way I like my favorite names, it's not really my style, I think it's the -nty ending that doesn't appeal to me personally. But it's a nice name, it "works". I checked Forvo and it's pronounced more like Shahn-tee than Shann-tee, which for me, saves it from sounding too much like the English word shanty.

It makes me think of shantytowns.

I love it. The meaning and sound are beautiful.BTW, Shanti is also a name in many West African cultures (from the Twi language), also meaning peace. This is apparently by complete coincidence.

It's a great name; I personally like it. It is actually used where I am (Singapore) considering that there's a significant Indian population here, but it really depends on what region you're in. I'm sure it's acceptable in Western countries.
