[Opinions] Arlette / Arleth
I'm working on my predictions for the SSA list for 2017 and I'm projecting Arlette and Arleth (https://www.behindthename.com/name/arleth/submitted) to be appearing on the chart this year. Decently high up for a new name too-- somewhere in the mid-700s, around where Poppy and Kaylani landed last year. I'm more surprised to see that Arlette has never charted before and Arleth only charted briefly in 2005 (in the 800s). I kind of group them with Arlene mentally, which peaked in 1934, so to me these 'feel' like they're fitting the 80 year rule and are due for a comeback-- but they've never been popular! I'm also projecting Loretta and Etta to possibly be appearing on the chart, so perhaps -etta / -ette endings are going to be a trend-- the -ette names that are already on the chart all rose last year (Juliette +27, Colette +63, and Scarlette +78)-- plus there are a ton of -ett names for boys (all of which are rising, save for Garrett), so it's kind of a unisex trend. Arleth is probably more likely used by Spanish speakers; the link above shows it's a Spanish name and same ending Yamileth has been on the chart since 2010. It's appearance is possibly influenced by the Mexican soap opera actress Arleth Terán.
Anyway, what do you think of Arlette, Arleth, and the possibility of an -ette/etta trend? Are there any -ette/etta names you'd hope to see on the chart in the next decade?
