I don't much enjoy either one, but at gunpoint I'd use Emmeline without hesitation. Naming a child in a family of atheists Evangeline seems highly inappropriate. Also, when my mother was a schoolgirl she had a friend named Evangeline who was always known as Vangie, which she found unfortunate!
