I taught a young Barbara 'Basia'. She was Ukrainian and she was very sweet.I think I would skip Barbara and just use Basia on it's own.

More than Barbie or Babs, but less than Barb, which would seem a more natural shortening to me.Basia's more interesting looking, though.

Thank you for letting us (me) know. I am still considering whether I should try using this nick name.

May I please query whether Basia is a nick-name you might naturally call a Barbara, and whether it is a better (easier) nick name than Barbie, Bobbie, Barbs, or even Babs? (There is no wrong answer - I am only curious of your thoughts—if you’d please be so kind.)

I've loved Basia ever since I found Basia Bulat's music. I'm rather certain her name is Barbara as well. Basia really brightens up Barbara for me.

Yes. I don't get how it comes from Barbara, but if Hopkin can come for Robert, anything is possible. The spelling Basia looks better though to me.

It's cute. It looks a little like Basho (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Matsuo_Bashō) and Basie (Count Basie), though.
