AD: Lexa Erin Geissler-Morse [6]Lexa bounded into the Geissler-Morse household in rather unexpected circumstances when Max came across the child's plight after online headlines deemed her the "Unadoptable Child". Determined to give her the love and care every small child needs, Max convinced Luka and the rest of the clan to open their home and hearts to Lexa.
It hasn't been easy. Max and Luka aren't as young as they once were and Lexa is unlike any of their current children, despite the complex needs of their group including PTSD, Asperger's and ADHD, Lexa has stretched everybody's patience to breaking point. She isn't interested in communicating via Makaton, has major meltdowns which wreck the house, punches her siblings and displays self-harming behaviours.
HOWEVER, 9 (long) months down the line... Lexa doesn't attend mainstream school but instead learns at home with Max in very practical and creative ways. The family built "Lexa's Den" in the garden which is an artistic work in progress with Lexa's projects all over the walls (and floors and ceilings), it's insulated and heated with electric lighting and a place Lexa can escape to when it all becomes too much. She uses some Makaton now - especially with her brothers - and has even opened herself up to German to talk to her daddy and biggest sister. Lexa's huge heart has really been uncovered by this determined family and they are excited to watch her grow and flourish in their care.Elsewhere...
Parker and Tasha are flourishing in their final year of school which they both attend full time - an achievement for the both of them which 3-years ago felt really unimaginable. Despite diagnoses of ADHD and PTSD respectively, the children have become aware of themselves and their individual needs. With similar behavioural difficulties, Tasha bonded with Lexa on a level that meant they were either best friends or at each others' throats but over time they've learnt to coexist with each other in a less fraught manner, sharing lots of artistic activities together. When Max integrated Parker back into school after a stint at home he found it really difficult. That's when he received a diagnosis of ADHD and used tablets to help regulate his emotions and behaviours. But nobody wanted him on them for long and thankfully, the school (who by now were used to the Geissler-Morse children's quirks) put in some support for Parker to take charge of his ADHD. He's a curious young lad who loves the outdoors, aquatic animals and dinosaurs.Great news for Kade! The last 3 years have been huge for him as he swam to a place in the National Junior Team and has competed nationally in his age group, winning many of his categories. Swimming is Kade's life but he still takes his studies seriously, currently preparing to do his GCSEs at his mainstream school which he attends 80% of the time.
Taytay is all grown up! She's at university studying to become a midwife and has moved out of the family home but visits regularly (at least every other weekend) to make sure she keeps in touch with her younger siblings. Octavia loves the career she'd heading into, it embodies all of her characteristics including nurturing, kind, helpful and determined. And Max and Luka? They're just so happy they have a healthy, loving family and that they have changed the lives of many children in need. They're still as dedicated to each other as ever and are planning to renew their wedding vows later in the year surrounded by their quirky crew.https://www.behindthename.com/pnl/117870?sort=rank&pop=ew
