Help[Opinions] Tavian
I heard this name on a boy the other day and I liked it quite a lot. I find it strong and unusual but I like that it is somewhat legitimate rather than made up. I also enjoy the NN ideas Tay and Tavi.
So, WDYT? Admittedly I assumed his name was Octavian at first, do you think this would happen a lot?

I thought it must be at least based on Octavian.
I'd like it better if the name Octavian didn't exist.
But I like it pretty well on its own, if it were "just" Tavian.
I don't like the idea of nn Tay or Tavi, though. Tave, maybe. Like Dave. heh
It's listed as African-American usage in the submitted database. It didn't strike me that way because I thought "Octavian nn Tavian, how synthetic?" but I can see how it's in that style, like Javion and Trayvon.

Yes Tavian is clearly a short of Octavian.
But I find it more cute and strong than Phil or Joe or other short masculine names.
After that it has a similar sound to Traian / Trajan a great classic name.
I would not use it BUT I would love to meet a Tavian or use it on a fictional character. Rate: 7/10.

Traian is really cool. Other than me accidentally spelling it train all the time, cause I'm good like that, and Tryon being a historic name here it would get confused for, I love it.

My initial reaction was ta-VEE-an but then reading your post about the nickname Tay and mistaking it for Octavian, I'm thinking you're pronouncing it TAY-vee-an.
I like the former pronunciation first.
Octavia is my top name for a girl, it's what I hope to name a future daughter if I am blessed with one so I would never be able to use this irl. I'm not really a fan of the masculine forms of the name.

Tavian sounds like a nickname, in spite of the length it seems incomplete. I feel like even though it isn't common Octavian is much better known and people would assume it is a nickname. I like Tavi.

In the US, I'd assume it was an African American name. So I might find it a little odd to see on someone who wasn't.

Tavian does sound nice although I would wonder if it was short for Octavian. That's just the way my mind thinks.
When my niece was small, she was friends with a girl name Tavia. Just that. I did assume her name was Octavia at first, but the name really did suit her and I prefer the sound of Tavia to Octavia.

It sounds pretty cool, but I wouldn’t actually consider using it.
