Yeah I should have specified in English speaking countries. It seems quite common in continental Europe.
I’m it sure it would be bound to get shortened though, despite my reservations about it. I would never worry about Julian getting shortened to Julie, for example.

Julians already have a short version though - here, they're mostly Jules/Joolz/pick your spelling, which is a bit less girly or at least comfortably unisex.
