[Opinions] Re: Choose a nickname for...
in reply to a message by Pie
I don't like far fetched nicknames except for when they are very well established classics, e.g. Catherine nn Kitty. I also usually prefer the full form.
I would choose:
Margaret - I like Meg, it has a classic and old fashioned feel to it thanks to 'Little Women'.
Robert - this is difficult. I guess Rob.
Caroline - Carrie, I really can't stand Caro.
Frederica - Freddie? I don't really see many other options except for Fred, Rica or Rikki :(
Cassandra - Cassie, I was never a huge fan of Sandra. I do like Sandy as a nature name but Cassandra nn Sandy seems odd kind of like Aurora nn Rory. The name and nickname would be too different in style.
Alexander - Alec, I really can't stand Alex at all.
Sabina - this is hard. Sabi, maybe?
Anastasia - ohhhh this is one of my all time favorites and I dislike it so much when it gets shortened. It's so gorgeous in its full form. I'm going with Annie. Anya would be fine too but it's a Russian nickname for Anna so it makes less sense to me. Annie is a name I kind of like but I would really really prefer to leave this in its full form. The worst I think is Stacy which I find okay on its own but not as a nickname for Anastasia because the clash in styles is just so huge.
Michael - I'm really sick of Mike and Mikey was always odd to me. Michael on its own is fine. If I had to... Mickey, I guess.
Susanna - I love the full name, not a fan at all of the nicknames. Sue is too strict, dated and short. Susie is weird sounding to me. Sanna isn't my style. I'd go with Sukie. I guess that's kind of far fetched, but as I have to choose a nickname... :D
Geraldine - Geri. I can't think of another one that makes much sense. I really dislike Geri though.
Francis - hmm this is hard. I actually think that Fanny is adorable. In France it was used on its own and as a nickname for Stephanie. It was quite fashionable in the 80s and 90s. But as I know what it means in English...I just couldn't use it. So I guess Frannie but I dislike it.
Angelina - I like this in its full form, prefer the Russian pronunciation. I guess I would go with Annie again. Not a fan of Angie or Lina.
Lucinda - Lucy, this was easy :)
Achilles - hmmm I don't really see a nickname for this at all. Achie is awful. Chill? Really none of them work. Maybe Les but it is awful too but I go with that anything is better than 'achy' or 'kill'.
Elizabeth - Liz. It has an old Hollywood glamour feel to it. I love Lily but I always found it odd and really far fetched as a nickname for Elizabeth.
Morgana - Morgi? There seems to be no other option.
Petronella - Ella even though I find it empty and bland.
Allegra - Allie is really the only one that works. Otherwise there would be Leg? Legra? Hmmm
Florian - Flori
Patricia - can I use Patrice as a nickname for this? If yes I choose that. Otherwise I guess Patri? I really dislike the usual nicknames for this.
Constantine - Conna, I guess.
Nicholas - Nico
Dorothea - Thea
Lysander - Okay here I choose Sandy.
Valentina - ohhhh this is hard. Val is not my style at all. So I guess Tina, but not a fan at all.
Victoria - I really like the full form. Hmmmm Tori, I guess.
Melchior - is there another one except for Mel? I go with that. It seems kind of odd though. Such an unusual name and then to go by bland nn Mel...
Cordelia - Delia
