I prefer the similar Ellen although Elaine is really nice and I'm partial to the nn Lainie. I'm a little surprised that the parents went there with Eleanor and Elaine. Both girls most likely go by their full names to avoid confusion, however, that may not prevent confusion entirely if their friends decide to call them Ellie, lol.
BTW, I really love the flow of Rose Elaine. What a pretty combo.
Edited to add that I've never known anyone named Elaine. Maybe I've heard of it in Hollywood, I don't know. It doesn't even seem dated to me because I haven't encountered it much at all anywhere.
