I don't like it for a boy, and since a male name is what it is, that would go double for a girl.
One of my Michele friends, the English-speaking one, was sometimes known as Mish as a schoolgirl, but it didn't last.
For boys, who would presumably be Michael on paper, I vastly prefer Mike or even Mick.
