It's been in consistent use (unisex, skewing female) as far back as parish records go in England, although it's rare. Fritha is in use too, although usage of that seems to date from The Snow Goose (the book Anneza mentioned) in which the girl is sometimes Frith, sometimes Fritha.
I like both of them a lot.
