It’s not ridiculous: it’s a classic name with a long history. It also has a complex and dignified sound to it, and Tolly is an OK nickname (not as obvious as Bart, though). The name gives me the same feel as Matthew, probably because of the Christian Bible association and the rare -ew ending.
You mentioned how it compares with today’s names, and I definitely think it’s leaps above most of the trendy fare out there. I’d definitely take Bartholomew over Kylo or Nevaeh.
