Ciao Felie, I hadn't "seen" you around for a while!
Frida is a pretty name.

I'm not menopausal yet and my doctor said it's still possible, though unlikely, for me to get pregnant naturally. Of course, I'm not considering it!
I just turned 51.

Part of me wants you to have another baby so we would get to see what you would name them! Your boys have awesome names :)
My mom didn't go through menopause until her late 50s, which apparently is uncommon...hm, I've never really thought about the average age before...
It's obviously rare (and maybe risky?) for a woman to have children in her 50s, but it's still naturally possible. I don't think there's anything wrong with it.

Most women start menopause in their 50s and finish by their 60s. I don't know why my mom finished menopause so early, and I find it really odd that I have taken after her in that aspect.
For me the only real signs of perimenopause is extremely irregular periods, periods that come closer and closer together and heavier periods. I actually talked to my doctor a few months ago to just check in about this and given my family history and symptoms she concluded that I was perimenopausal.

you're already perimenopausal? 45! That's extremely young. I think it might be affecting your opinions about older mothers!
Hmm, it doesn't seem that young from my family's perspective. My mom was definitely perimenopausal, if not in full menopause, when she passed away at 48.
Yeah, I know it is very young. And it's not exactly fun. I swear to God every woman out there loves to give me their horrible, terrible experience with menopause. Completely out of concern, of course, just so I know what I'm getting into. Personally I wish they'd shut up.
My view obviously is from my personal experience. It's hard for me to imagine somebody having a baby at that age, given the fact that it would be impossible for me and was impossible for my mom.
I did not want to start an argument by stating that I felt 54 was too old, so instead I just stated that it was hard for me to believe that someone could still have a baby at that age. Which is true, even though 45 is young most women have started menopause by their 50s.

If this makes you feel any better, menopause was nothing for me. The year that I turned 50, I started having my periods further apart. I think I only had five or six that year. When I was 50 years and four months, I had my last one. Another never came. That was it. No hot flashes, no negative emotions, nothing.
Thanks.
I've really only discussed this with three different wome (and now an internet message board, but most of you guys don't know me IRL) but whenever menopause comes up everyone wants to tell their stories. When I was younger I ignored them because it was years away, now it's not.
The main worries I have are about periods that never end. That definitely seems to be in my future, given that my periods are becoming more frequent and more unpredictable. As long as I was on my thyroid medication my periods were like clockwork, now even with me being on my thyroid medication they are a mess.
Oddly enough my PMS has significantly decreased as I've gotten older even with my periods getting crazier. It's kind of interesting to watch the whole process.

yeah
I turned 39 yesterday and am definitely not perimenopausal. Being perimenopausal in your 30s is not the norm.
I believe my mother started getting symptoms around 45 but it took her a few years to be completely done.
As for this woman, 54 is pretty late but, well, she must be wealthier than average and have the resources to raise a child, so why not?

There's like 4-5 mums in our mums group who are currently pregnant and they are age 38-42ish. Having a baby in your late 30s/early 40s is not far from normal now!
Practically all my friends and relatives who had kids had them 35+.
One of my mums friends just had a baby at 55, apparently it was natural and she didn't realise it until she was about 6 months along. She thought that she was going through menopause. Biggest shock of her life.
Oh my God, I bet. I can't imagine and I'm younger than her.
It was probably a test tube baby.
My mom's 54 and she's already a grandmother several times over. She wouldn't even think of having children. She's also several months younger than Nielsen.
Was wondering the same thing. That’s really late to have a child!
The record is at 72...
Not naturally conceived. I recently read an articale that doctors in India are under fire bc they try to get very old women pregnant (with apparent disregard for the health of the mother, baby and egg donors). And 54 is already pretty old to be a new mother.

I wanted to say that it can't be a natural conception, until I remembered that a 57-year-old conceived naturally back in the 1950s. Apparently, that record was surpassed by a 59-year-old ten years ago.
