I don't even think of Robin (m) and Robin (f) as the same name at all. The boy name is traditional, Robin is to Robert as Sally is to Sarah, and has nothing whatsoever to do with birds. And the girl name is a nature name, after the bird, and has nothing at all to do with Robert. That's how I see it, anyway.
I like Robin (m) very well. I proposed it as a name for our son. But my husband didn't like it - probably because he was born in the sixties and knew tons more female Robins in his life, than male. It's almost getting to be an old man name, and I wouldn't mind if people revived it.
The bird name (f) is just ok ... small, brown, simple, reliable.
