It had always been suspected that Princess Mary would have been the first of the twins to get married; though they're physically identical, their personalities could not be more different. Mary, the older twin, is far more outgoing and greatly enjoys the royal balls that her stepmother frequently hosts. Amelia is much quieter and more bookish, and whispers around the court suspected that she would end an old maid. But Fergus, Duke of Nottingham, came to visit from the kingdom to the north, and he was struck by Amelia's intelligence and gentleness. King Edmund was surprised when Fergus himself approached him about an engagement - usually a parent or adviser arranges a marriage for one so young. The Duke, however, had just come into his title upon the sudden death of his father. His new title, and his small army of younger siblings to provide for, had forced the Duke into an early maturity. The King consented to the engagement with joy, and Prince Charles and Princess Mary are wildly excited for their sister. Prince Rupert doesn't yet understand the concept of marriage, but he greatly enjoys fencing with his future brother-in-law. Little Felicity and Claudia are too preoccupied with keeping their mother busy to give Fergus much thought.Queen Philippa was unable to find a match for her nephew, Prince Charles, during his visit to Genoa, but in the chaos surrounding his cousin's visit, Prince Florian entered into an engagement. The Baroness de Campo's lively spirit captivated Florian, and she greatly admired his sense of adventure and the dashing figure he cut on horseback. Florian's mother was shocked at first that her eldest son and heir to the throne would marry a girl of such low rank, but King Hugo talked her down. The Queen especially warmed up to Gemma as she helped distract the older children after the births of Marius and Ignatius. Honestly, Philippa never expected to have so many children, but she and Hugo love seeing their older children interact with their younger siblings. She and Hugo do often wonder how on earth they will be able to marry off eight children in the relatively small kingdom of Genoa.Despite the pleadings of King Edmund and Queen Alice, Beatrice did indeed renounce her claim to the throne and moved to the Baron de Medici's holdings in Genoa. It was not an easy decision to make, especially taking her children from her marriage with Andrew into account. Beatrice's original plan for her five children was to marry them off to other Genoan nobles when they came of age, but, upon the death of Andrew's only brother, Adela suddenly became heir to the Emory title that her father had held. When she is of age, Adela will move back to England to take possession of the land and title owed to her. In the meantime, an adviser appointed by King Edmund is managing the estate on Adela's behalf. The Baron and Baroness also welcomed a little girl, who is absolutely doted on by her older half-siblings. The Baron has taken quite well to being a stepfather and father - his estate has so much land for the older children to explore, and he especially enjoys taking Adela and Giles for rides through the hills. Beatrice never believed that she could love again after losing Andrew, but she has grown to love her new husband. He isn't as passionate and fiery as her first husband, but she appreciates his patience and steadiness and the affection he shows for the children who aren't his own.As their two daughters have grown older, Princess Victoria and Prince Adrian have begun to plan a tour of Europe for their family. Adrian is one of his older brother's best diplomats, so most of their travel will be political, but they also want Katherine and Agatha to experience more of the world. Adrian is also worried about his wife - after suffering two miscarriages recently, Victoria has been difficult to console. He hopes that stopping along the way to visit her siblings in England and Genoa will cheer her up.~ Amalia"No story lives unless someone wants to listen."http://www.behindthename.com/pnl/91617
