Margaret gathered her courage and presented King Simon with her deal: her silence for another child. At first he agreed and they engaged in the activities on a regular basis. Margaret continued to press and continued to press as month after month she still didn't get pregnant. It angered her that she couldn't seem to conceive again.
After almost a year of this pushing, King Simon had enough. He announced their divorce. He offered Margaret a home on his lands in exchange for the divorce and her continued silence. Her only option, Margaret took the offer. A few months later, she discovered she was pregnant finally. Since Simon refuses anything to do with her, Margaret has raised their youngest daughter alone.
Both Princess Katherine and Princess Alice have reached the marriageable age. At twenty-one, whispers have begun that Katherine may not get married at all and Katherine seems content with that. She has always preferred action and adventure over the humble life of a wife and mother.
Alice, on the other hand, has romanticized the idea of being a wife and mother. Even though her own parents' marriage fell apart, she has the childish belief that her mother and father will some day come back together as a family.
Even though her father has remarried. Joan of Tulles has become Alice's new mother and the two young women, with less than a ten year gap in their ages, have become solid friends. Katherine and Joan, however, have an even closer relationship. The two spend all their free time gallavanting around the castle together. It makes Margaret wonder.
