[Opinions] Rory
I've been liking this name lately. I like the spelling and meaning of Ruaidhri but it seems like this would be easier to deal with. Does Rory seem like a substantial enough name on it's own?

Yes. And if you don't want to use it as a 1st name, it could always be used as a middle name

I like Rory - whether a nickname or a full name.

I've never known a Rory who was anything else! I knew a Ruarhi once, I think - his parents had done something to simplify the spelling but ended up introducing more problems than they solved. And he was one of the most substantial of men. I like it and would like to see more of it.ETA I don't find a -y ending particularly nicknamey or particularly babyish or feminine or anything else. After all, there's always Antony, Gregory, Jeremy and Timothy.

I've never met a Rory who was short for anything, so yes, it does. I quite like it too.

Yes, the only Rorys I've come across had it as their full name. But I don't like it, because it's such a garble. It sounds like Roy with a mouthful of half-chewed dinner.

Yes, it's substantial enough on its own. Having said that; the sound is difficult for me. The 2 syllables starting with an R right after each other are uncomfortable t say out loud and not very appealing. I think it has a good meaning and history and Rory is easier to deal with than Ruaidhrí.

I don’t really think so? It’s pretty nicknamey and ends in that -ee sound that seems to define nicknames in English. I’m just not really a fan.

AgreeWhile I do like it, anything ending in the -ee sound is always too nny for me as a full name. Even "true" full names like Riley or Emily don't quite seem right to me.

I like Ruaidhri, but Rory is just a nickname to me. (Not that it isn't usable as a full name, just that it seems like a waster opportunity to use a longer name that could have Rory as a nickname).

I think Rory’s substantial enough on its own, as it is a full name. I really like it. It’s sweet for a little boy and would age well.
