I prefer Fern to Fernanda.
I don't enjoy the -er- sound in most names: Merle, Pearl, Mervyn, Percy ... and the only Fern I've ever met was a very forgettable person who said she was a medical student, though this seemed unlikely. Not a recommendation! But if I had a partner who really loved it, I'd try to warm up.

I like Fern.I think it is one of the older names that is underused at this point.
