[Opinions] Nicknames with z-endings
I have 4 students this year with nicknames ending in Z or a z-sound.Rosalyn "Roz"
Lissaury "Liss" pr. Liz
Desmond "Des"
Jazmine "Jaz" honorable mention: Isabelle "Izzy" I half expect a Chas to enroll any day. What are some other similar nicknames? What do you think of them? Any theories as to why I'm seeing so many?

I have a friend named Dez / Dezzie, but it's short for Destiny.I think Jaz / Jazz is kind of a newer invention, but Liz and Des and Roz certainly aren't. I honestly think it's coincidental or at least a very localized thing. None of those seem like names I've seen a lot of personally.
It's not really in the same vein, but I like Fitz and Fritz.
I like Laz for Lawrence and variants.
I was just mentioning Zaz / Zazi / Zazie to someone for Isabelle / Elizabeth. It's more of a literary creation, but I feel like I've seen it getting more attention lately. (Maybe thanks to Zazie Beetz? That's her real name, btw. I checked.)
My mom called me Izzy a lot of my childhood.
I'm a fan of Kizzie / Kizzy, both as a Romani name and as a nickname for Keziah.

There's a popular French singer Zaz whose music I enjoy. I always thought the name suited her and her genre very well. I've never seen Laz, but it has a cool sound to it!

Liz (spelled this way) is cute; it has more character than dull Elizabeth.Other nns with the z endings I can think of Kenzie for MackenzieBuzz (which doesn't seem to have anything to do with a birth name)Fizz (a friend of mine uses it as an internet handle, and when he worked at his college's radio station; it doesn't stand for anything)JosieSuzieDizzy (there was a famous baseball player, well known for his funny turns of phrase, who was called Dizzy Dean. His real first name was Jay.)

Z is popular because it's uncommon, so the situation will probably self-correct.Once I taught an Elizabeth who wanted to be known as Zabz, but this was too silly even for her friends, so it didn't really work.
