Shortly after Líadan's birth, Lorenzo became quite ill. His life labored on for months before he passed, leaving a grieving Joan to care for five children all in her own. It came to no one's great surprise when Joan showed up one day,less than a year after Lorenzo's passing, with a brand new husband.
Mark Coupe had lost his wife around the same time and he had to raise three children on his own, including a son the same age as Líadan. When Mark met Joan, the two clicked and wedded within a week of their meeting. Neither wanted to be alone, especially if it meant raising their children by themselves.
Dulcie married the young man she had begun to pair off with at the tender age of eight. She and Linus Coy would go everywhere together. Rumors cropped up that two had already become engaged by the time they turned twelve. And by the time Dulcie turned fifteen, people expected her to get pregnant. With her parents' permission, Dulcie married Linus at the age of sixteen.
Since Dulcie left her parents' house, Heather and Benjamin became the guardians of three children, the children of their neighbors, the Sourds, who tragically passed in an accident. Doris, Verena, and Ronald keep the aging couple on their toes, but Heather wouldn't have it any other way.
