[Opinions] Holly or Jade? (more)
My two favorite English word names except for Lily ;)If you had to choose, which one and why?Do they give you different images? Would the parents of a Holly be different than those of a Jade?Would you only use Holly during the Christmas/winter period?and are they dated?Holly or Jade?

Definitely Holly, though it's not a favourite. I don't like Jade at all, it's very harsh sounding and is an old word for a prostitute. They're both a little dated here, but Jade much more so.

I think Holly is kind of dated, but it’s not too bad. I’m not a huge fan of either, but I would go with Jade because I typically side with Gem stone names.

HollyJade reminds me of this person that I really dislike, as it was her middle name, so I prefer Holly which is sweet sounding. Jade just sounds harsh to me.

Definately Holly

Jade because it's prettier in my opinion.

Holly and Jade make me think of somewhat similar people, but Holly seems a little older and Jade seems a little prettier. Both make me think of someone with dark hair. Holly makes me think of someone with glasses. Jade makes me think "green" more than Holly makes me think "red".
I don't think Holly is necessarily associated with Christmas or winter.
I don't think either of them are dated, but I'd be a little surprised to see Holly on a young kid (and I wouldn't be surprised to see a young Jade at all).
I prefer Jade, but I usually use it as a middle name in combos.

If you had to choose, which one and why?
- Holly. I've always thought it was pretty and would suit a child and an adult. Both DH and I really like it.
Do they give you different images? Would the parents of a Holly be different than those of a Jade?
- I'm not sure I get different images from them, as names can be used for all kinds of people. Potentially the parents of a Jade could be more into the trendy names and be lower on the socioeconomic scale.
Would you only use Holly during the Christmas/winter period?
- I have to admit, I do like the name used around Christmas time. It makes sense to and it's a nod to the time the child was born, even though here in Australia it's summer at Christmas and there are no Holly trees flowering. It can be used at anytime of year though.
Are they dated?
- Yeah, a bit, but not enough to worry about.
Holly or Jade?
- Holly.

I think they are dated; certainly where I live. The only Jade I've ever known is a man. Big, muscular (field athlete), friendly and outgoing, an auctioneer.Holly ... the only rhyming name that I like is Polly! Holly, Molly, Dolly, Olly ... no. Just, no. I've got a Holly step-niece who's a pleasant kid, but I still can't enjoy the name. Her parents are deaf - her mother has some hearing, her father none - and they chose names for both their children that they could comfortably 'hear', lipread and say. Which is important.

Holly, and I would use it no matter what season the child would be born in except Christmas. It would be a bit too obvious and dumb. Jade is alright too, but I think it's more 'trendy' sounding, maybe because of the -ade ending which reminds me of Aiden, Kaden etc. It also makes me think of Maci from MTV's Teen Mom who now have three children named Bentley, Jayde and Maverick. I'd except Jade's parents to choose more modern/trendy names compared to Holly's parents.

If you had to choose, which one and why? Holly, I think it's prettier and sounds more grown up. Do they give you different images? Would the parents of a Holly be different than those of a Jade? I don't know, I think I would expect Jade's siblings to be more trendy, where as Holly would have siblings like Madeline and Jonathan. Would you only use Holly during the Christmas/winter period? No, it's fine. I also wouldn't only use June for a baby born in June. and are they dated? Yes, but that's fine. Holly or Jade? Holly.

HollyHi Perrine !!!Holly is one of my favourite names too!
It is simple, glittering with a sincere and evergreen nature meaning.I can figure a very cheerful, whimsical girl (like a more chatterbox Luna Lovegood) but with curly, red hair. Holly has a strong, witchy Halloween and autumn vibe rather than a Winter vibe in my mind. I would use it also in Christmas Time (while in general Winter I would prefer something related with snow). It is not dated at all imo. At the contrary It is ageless.I dislike Jade.
Jade in my mind is a blonde, skinny, snobbish girl Who was a cheerleader and a bully during high school. Born in Summer.
Jade is a trendy name imo. I dislike also the sound. Holly is more traditional but also tender I think...

JadeI like Holly, too, but Jade is higher up on my list. And Holly can be used year-round, just like Noelle and Natalia.Imagery:
Holly - a tall, thin, thirty- or fortysomething woman with brown hair pulled back in a ponytail
Jade - a petite girl of around 19-25 with long brown hair and a beauty mark on her face
