[Opinions] Favorite Persian / Arabic names!
This weekend I saw "Bohemian Rhapsody" in the theater. It's a very entertaining movie, though some of the criticisms it has received are valid (final quarter of the movie isn't as strong as it could be). But in the beginning there's some tension between Freddie and his father due to Freddie rebelling against his background, e.g. going by Freddie instead of his real, Parsi name: Farrokh Bulsara (among many other things).Today, that got me thinking about names on these boards. Likely because most of us post from Western countries, there's definitely a Western bias in the names posted on here, in Top 10 threads and elsewhere. So, semi-inspired by "Bohemian Rhapsody," I wanted to make a post where we look a little further east. So, everybody, post your favorite Persian / Arabic names!***Please rate my personal name lists:www.behindthename.com/pnl/69381

Alya.Zainab, Zayna, Nor, and Khadija are pretty as well. My great great grandfather have a Arabic name, Bashir Ageeb and that is one of the most interesting names of someone having, especially because he was a Christian.

Bashir is an interesting name. Was your great-great-grandfather Eastern Orthodox? Several Middle Eastern countries were Christian prior to the Muslim conquests, as places like the Hagia Sophia attest, and there are still minority religious groups throughout the Middle East.

ones that I've seen on real people and which also appeal to me aesthetically (I can't evaluate them as deeply as I do Western names, as I'm not as familiar with the cultures... there are other Arabic and Persian names I like aesthetically, but I'm not counting ones I haven't encountered as people's names)

My mother actually works for a lot of Persian families (she's a housekeeper) so I've fortunately gotten to know a bit about their culture and I've been to a lot of their parties growing up. My favorite Persian & Arabic names would have to be:Girls
Afsoon
Feride (this one is actually Turkish but it's a variant of an Arabic name)
Nour
Imani (Swahili name of Arabic origin)
Muna
Negeen
Soraya
Leila (SUPER popular among Persians but I still think it's pretty)
Farah
Rana (even though it means frog in Spanish haha)
Arezou
Elahe
Parisa (the name of one of my good childhood friends)
Jibril
Naima
Maryam
SumayyaBoys
Nima (this one is so cute!)
Yunus/Younes
Roham
Cyrus
Ilyas
Zaki
Faizel
Iskander

Feride is really interesting. I'd forgotten about Turkish names in the OP, but expanding to them I'd include Adalet / Adilet, Dilara (variant of Delara), Elif, Evren, and Nevra - all feminine usage.I also forgot about Parisa! That's a cool one. I like the sound of Ilyas, too.

Oooh, I can't believe I forgot about Farrah! I've always thought that was a gorgeous name - and a nice alternative to Sarah (of which I know so many).Speaking of which, I keep forgetting Sara / Sarah also has Arabic usage, since I always think of it as a Hebrew name.
