I know an Amberly. She's shortish, long dark hair, pretty eyes, trendy style.

She could look like anything. What I'd expect her to be like ... the child of parents who were trying to live out their own ambitions as social climbers by giving their child a name they perceived as distinguished, exclusive, upper-class. So she could be either a small social climber or a hard-swearing, bubblegum bubble-popping identifier with prepubertal ghetto-dwellers.

I picture an 'Amberly' to be very young. Baby-toddler aged young, maybe a little bit older. Needless to say, I have a hard time imagining this name on an adult. It comes across as sounding very childish.
I much prefer Amber which I can envision on all ages and more background varieties.
