I wouldn't think of penises any more than I do when I meet a guy named Peter, tbh.
Willie would make me think of Willie Nelson first.
And Willie Mays and Willy Wonka.
It's like the name Dick - if I find it as the name of a person, it first makes me think of Dick Clark and Dick Button and Dick Van Dyke.
So, I guess that dates me!
It's just a name to me, on some level. I guess it is also an 'older black man' & baseball star name, and for some reason - maybe only Nelson, but it seems like there's more than that? - on a white guy I'd vaguely associate it with marijuana. Like it's playful and theatrically hippy. In a brassy way.
I only think of the slang after recognizing the name - and I feel kinda like an idiot for thinking of it, too.
I understand why people who use the slang don't find any appeal in using them as names - I don't either - but I think that to say that they are terrible unfortunate names, for the people who have them, because of the slang, is silly and kinda disrespectful.

Ha. This is how I've always felt whenever someone has snickered at the name of my Uncle Dick. I inwardly roll my eyes at their immaturity, but I also feel a little angry because I find it disrespectful. I want to explain that my uncle was born in 1929, before the slang term had gained wide currency, and therefore my grandparents were not cruel idiots who decided to slap their son with a cringe-worthy name that invites ridicule.
So why did I say what I did about Willie? How hypocritical of me.
