Regina: it's the name of Isles toddler in the Rizzoli & Isles books. Each time I read it if bugs me, I really can't see a toddler with it. It's just not a pretty name to me, although I can see the appeal I love the name Maxine for example.Marilyn is cute. It's not something I would use but I can see it.Marilyn and Regina together seemed very, very hipster to me. They work but they're not my style at all. I honestly prefer Maxine and Regina together. Both names bring to mind badass women, whereas Marilyn is very run of the mill and demure to me.

I find them both over-ambitious, in different ways. It's difficult to shake off the Monroe image from Marilyn, and she's hardly the kind of person one would expect to meet in today's world; plus, and no doubt this is just my bad luck, every Marilyn I've ever known has been, to say the very least, physically plain. And Regina! Not just regal, but Latin. And I've never encountered it used in English, but in both Dutch and Afrikaans I have. And of course the -g- makes a hearty throat-clearing sound that is really fine in those languages of course but not elsewhere. If it shortens to Gina in English, as it surely would, then that helps. But I'd rather name a child either Jean or Georgina.

Regina reminds me of the character on Once Upon A Time and I personally dislike the show. I suppose her name is Regina because it happens to mean Queen, but the show is pretty questionable to me. I think the nickname of Gina is cute and it can always be shortened to Ria, if that is what the bearer wants. Marilyn is sweet, but I think I like the sound of Mary-Lynn better, and I don't like Mary that much. I guess you wouldn't have to worry about Marilyn not aging well and it could sound darling on a little girl as well.

I really dislike Marilyn. It's frumpy and dowdy and just doesn't appeal. I don't care if Marilyn Monroe was a sex goddess way back then, it's only marginally better than her birth name of Norma Jean.Regina is cute, but I do prefer Gina on its own.
