Pretty if it was pronounced LEER-a. Nice for a character in a book or movie, but not so much for real-life.

I've a grandkity named Lyra (LEER-uh). It suits her. Can't say that I love it all that much for a person due to its two pronunciations, however, having seen it used for three years on a cat, I've definitely warmed up to it.

However hard I try, my associations are with the constellation, the musical instrument and only then a teenager I know whose mn is Lyra after the Philip Pullman character. And then, the character - who is wonderfully written and extremely interesting (unlike, for instance, Hermione in the other major fantasy series), but since her name puns on her talent for duplicity, I find it rather off-putting.

Pretty, but too closely tied to the His Dark Materials trilogy for me.

I like it! I like both LAI-ra and LEER-a, but I'm more likely to assume LEER-a.

I think it is pretty.

Cute but bland and very in the Lila, Layla, Layah, Liliah ect. phase

I love it! I prefer it pronounced as “Leer-uh” over “lie-ruh”, though.

That's the pronounciation I like, too.

Visually, it is too close to LIRA which is the financial currency of multiple countries. Sound-wise. it is too close to "liar". I wouldn't use it.

Elegant and beautiful and not a name frequently heard. Wouldn't mind considering it for a child.
