I pronounce it as MAH-reet

This is how Marit is pronounced in Swedish. Here, Marit is an old name, well known but not common.

It's prn MAH-riht or mah-REET. I like it!! It is a Aramaic name meaning "lady" or "mistress" or a Norwegian or Swedish form of Margaret.
