I need to be more specific, because every time I ask about a nickname, I assume everyone knows it would have a fuller version. Whoops.

if 10 is maximum boring, Katie is a 6. It's not that boring... it's more just bland, like Beth or Emma. Kathy is more boring than Katie. Katie is more boring than Kate.

This is one of my least favorite names ever. Yes, it is terribly overused. I have had so many friends named Katie/Katherine/Catherine throughout my life, it is ridiculous. There were 10 of them in my small grammar school.

I view it more favorably now than I did as a kid in the 90s (I used to think it sounded annoying; now I don't). 5/10 boring.

Katie and probably 6, I think it could be a cute nickname Katharina or Kathryn. Katja or Katia are nicer in my opinion, as they aren't as common as Katie is. Katy reminds me of Katy Perry.

While Katie and its variants may seem too insubstantial for a fullname, it makes for an endearing nickname. Too me, Katie is cute, fun, easily recognizable, and warm. Katie is like warm blanket from childhood. Yes, it has experienced a lot of wear and tear, but it is dependable, comfortingly familiar, and filled with memories that give it character.

Katie isn't a name on my PNL, but I like it overall and can see the appeal as a nickname.

I think Katie is cute. The other spellings look off to me. On a little girl today, it'd probably be pretty unusual. I think Kate is the norm now, but Katherine, Catherine, and Kate aren't nearly as popular as I thought they were.

When my eldest was born, we named her Katherine and called her Katie. She always had one or two in her elementary school until 6th grade. At that point, her grade alone had 6-8 and she was done. She decided on her 14th birthday that she wanted to be one of two girls named Kate in her school rather than one of many girls named Katie and that was that. DH and I never saw it coming; we had assumed she might want to go by Katherine one day.

While I still like the sweetness of Katie, I think it needs a rest. It's weird to even think about it now or to associate it with my dd. I absolutely prefer the more mature, more confident Kate and so does my Kate. As for boring, I believe any overused name can be made boring. This can happen with the most beautiful of names.

I don't particularly think of it as being overused either, especially lately. I haven't met any Katies under the age of 20 today.

It's not that it's overused, though probably it is. My mine gripe is it's so damn cutesy and babyish. I picture some kid with fat pink chipmunk cheeks and squinchy eyes and a shrill, babyish giggle, and this person grows up to look and act the same way even long after she should have grown out of it.

Katie was my favourite name when I was 9. I have never known any Katies that used it as a full name. Usually a short form for Katherine. I don't think it's boring at all as I don't know any and have not known many. 1/10.

I suggest Cate, at least Kate (in my case after the Duchess of Cambridge) or Kathy (after Kathy Reichs).

I've never known a Katie. (I've known spelling variants of Caitlin, but none went by Katie.) So I turn to the popularity statistics. It never got higher than #38. That doesn't put it in the boring category for me. Of course, that wouldn't take into account any Caitlins or Katherines who do go by Katie, but as I've said, I've never known one, so it doesn't feel boring to me.

It isn't boring by overuse. It's boring because it's a diminutive name.
If her name is Katherine, Caitlin, or Catriona and she's called Kate/Katie for short - fair enough. But Kate/Katie as full names? 10/10 boring.
Katy and Katey are just weird.

I prefer Katie. I know a Taiwanese Katie whose mother chose the name for her when she was about 13, rather than her actual name (Chi'en Hue, sounds like Chin-Way)which she'd been using since she came here at the age of about 4. Now she's in her late 20s and one of a large crowd.
