What do you think of Mireille? Could it be used instead of Mary?

Only if you have French heritage, I think...which sucks, I know. lol I remember when I first heard the name Eliana. I thought it was so pretty (I still do), but then I found out it's strictly Spanish...I mean, there IS the Hebrew Eliana, but that's going OT. lol

I don't understand what you mean if it could be used instead of Mary. It is kind of dated to me or just meh since I lived in France. It is pretty enough, but there are other French names I find more exciting and fresher.

Sure, if more people hear it. It sounds more unique and I also like Marielle. Mira would be a cute nickname, too.

It's apparently nearly impossible for an English speaker to pronounce right, so I wouldn't use it in an English speaking country.

I like it!
It's used now and then where I live. I can't see it being used instead of Mary.

Makes more sense to use it instead of Miranda, since all it's got in common with Mary is the first letter. However, unless you live in a Francophone or very cosmopolitan area, it would be kinder (to the bearer and to the general public) to use something easier to pronounce. Like Mirella, or indeed Miranda.
