[Opinions] WDYTO Sawyer
I kind of been liking Sawyer lately. To me, it’s all boy. I despise it on a girl. Thoughts?

I like it! Not on girls, though; just boys. (although there was a time I considered it for a female character, but thankfully that time's passed lol)
Not a fan. There was a period of time in the mid-2000s where this name was used in tons of TV shows, movies, and books, and it sort of turned me off to the name.
It is definitely male. I don't like it on a girl, but not a huge fan of surnames as first names.
My mind knows Sawyer rhymes with 'lawyer' and should be pronounced 'soy-yer'. My eyes see it and insist it's pronounced 's-awe-ya'. It's the same reason I can't get my head around Sean. which my eyes insist is pronounced 'seen'.
At least Sean can be spelt Shaun, which my eyes agree should be pronounced 'shawn'.
Sawyer is impossible.

I really like it for a boy and would consider using it because the meaning "Sawer of Wood" has significance in my life because my Grandpa was a Timber faller (Logger) and my dad was a mill work and i grew up around sawmills.
I too despise this name on girls, there is nothing feminine or pretty or even tomboyish about it, its a very manly name to me. I hope this trend of boys names on girls ends soon.

Oh god, so do I! If you ask me, it's nothing more than a brainless and sexist trend. There are an UNCOMFORTABLE amount of masculine names listed within the girl's side of the chart.
About the only thing that eases my mind on this paticular matter is that no matter how trendy an obvious boy name becomes for a girl, no matter how many girls recieve the name, it will never become suitable for that gender. Ugh...*facepalm* );

I like it-have for a long time now. It like the way it sounds and it brings to mind a certain character from LOST. (; One of my all-time favorite shows. *Sigh*. Why does everything good have to end?
It also of course brings to mind Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn as well as a name of two local buisnesses, one being a bank and the other being a motor vehical dealer. They both have 'Sawyer' in their title. That would deter me away from using it if I wanted to.
I absolutely agree. It's atrocious on a girl. Same goes for all these OBVIOUS male names trending for girls. *SMH* like, pfft #leaveTheMaleNamesAloneAlready

I can see why it'd appeal to some people; at its best, I think it has a literary lumberjack, wholesome troublemaker type vibe.
But to me, it's just another antiquated occupational name (like Cooper, Thatcher, Archer, Carter, Taylor, Harper, etc)...not awful, but they come across as vapid to me...
Sawyer also makes me think of sawdust. Which isn't bad really? It's a crafty, outdoorsy association. I'd like Forrester more, though.

I just can’t get past my hatred of surnames as first names, especially if it’s not a family name.
