[Facts] Help with Дементий / Dementiy
Does anyone know anything about the Russian masculine name Дементий/Dementiy? I first encountered the name looking at names recently recorded in Belarus, but primary usage seems to be Russian. So far I've seen Russian sites categorise it with Domentiy / Доментий, Dometiy / Дометий, and Domitian, but do not list any origin for the name, and Dementiy seems to be by far the most common form.
Other sites list it as a form of Dominicus, although to my understanding Доминик / Dominik is the usual form. Is this confusion between Latin domitus and dominus?
I wanted to double check this all since the changes in letters between the names whether from Dominicus or Domenti seems a bit unusual, though I think Domenti looks more plausible. Доментий / Domentiy seems to be used as a Russian rendering of Georgian დომენტი / Domenti, the name of 4 Catholicos-Patriarchs of Georgia, which is spelled Domentius in English sources. Did the o morph into an е? Or is the name from somewhere else entirely?
Thanks.
