I love it and def prefer it as a nickname. My nephew is William but goes by Will a lot of the time :)

Love love love, there's nothing better. But I couldn't name a son William because it's my brother in-law's name. Sad face.

I like it I guess, I haven't heard Liam that much and find both nicknames okay. Liam seems more like the name of a 8 year old boy, or a 19 year old boy, where I can see will being in his early 30s or a teenager.

I think Will is very generic and ageless, and I vaguely associate it with 'willpower'. Liam sounds more youthful and Irish, and I think in a few decades it might sound dated, about like Bill does to me now.I'm mostly indifferent to both because William is just an inoffensive classic sounding name to me, but I'd pick Will over Liam.

My son is called Will and if he ever has a son, he will be called Liam.I called my son Will rather than Bill because when I was growing up, and for many years before, every William was a Bill. I thought I was being different, but around that time, everyone who used William was turning away from Bill and turning towards Will, so I was really just part of a trend. Will has grown on me but I don't know to what extent that's because it's my son's name. Whatever the reason, I now find it handsome, friendly, and down-to-earth.

I hold extreme dislike for both William and Liam (the first too posh and the second too bro-y), but I love Will on it's own.
It's pleasant and unassuming, and I think it would make a nice name for a girl as well, thanks to the female character with this name from the cartoon W.I.T.C.H.

Hi !!!I much prefer Will too!It is bright, sunny and friendly. It is ageless and has a meaning its own.Plus when I was a child the first Will I 'came across' was Will Turner played by Orlando Bloom... so cool there!

I like both Will and Liam.

Seconded! William is a family name and I'd have used it happily, with Will as a nn - in my family history, William shortened to Bill, which I don't mind at all, but Will is much nicer. For Liam, see my response to Gigibee below.

I also prefer Will to Liam, but I don't dislike Liam, at all.Anyway, I love William/Will. It's handsome, classic, but not boring, at least not in my opinion. I would use it.

I don't think I've heard Liam as a nickname for William before, although once you brought it up it makes sense. I've always heard of Liam as its own first name, and Will (or Bill, I guess?) as a nn for William. I prefer Will a lot more. Will is even a pretty good fn imo.
