My best friends name is Melita, pronounced the same way, I call her Lita. It's a very sweet name!

One of my dds had a friend in high school named Marcia (pr. mar-SEE-uh). She had three sisters with names also beginning with M. I can't recall them all, however, I do recall the one named Melita because the name was so unusual. While NMS, it's certainly pretty. I prefer it spelled with one t although this spelling may have a different origin according to this website.

It looks like it would rhyme with "bitter". I prefer Melita - Ma-LEE-ta

Better than hissy Melissa, but not attractive enough.

Makes me think of a coffee filter.

That's where I heard the name. I was listening to a podcast about female inventors.

So it was a name before it was coffee stuff, like Mercedes was a name before it was a car?

I knew a girl called Melita in high school and didn't like it, the "ee" sound is kind of harsh to me. I'm not sure if I prefer Melitta or not. I feel like I should because it's gentler, but I'm not sure I do.
