Taddeo’s mother, Giulietta, passed away a few years ago. The family has asked Alderano, his stepfather, to move in with them as he is getting older and is now without his wife to help him. He agreed, and they will leave some staff at his estate to maintain repairs and prepare for any family that needs to stay there.
Isabetta’s husband Christoph was killed by highwaymen on a trip delivering goods to an important trade partner in Thessaloniki. Though Isabetta was sad and nervous about her future, he was often away travelling during the two years of their marriage and didn’t have a chance to grow too close to either her or their sons, so at least they weren’t inconsolable. Isabetta didn’t have to worry about being a widow for long, however. Due to her father Duca Taddeo’s relationship with the King over the years, (King) Re Gianfrancesco and Regina Agnella surprised them by offering their fourth son, Principe Lorenzo, in marriage to her. Whether this was merely a way to solidify the King’s alliance with the Morras, or as a compromise with their son—who refused to become a priest and threatened to run off and become a pirate–entrusting him with land and administrative duties being considered a preferable outcome, no one asked. While Lorenzo wasn’t overjoyed at the idea of marrying and “old lady with brats”, and Isabetta wasn’t fond of the idea of marrying a “wild, impertinent child”, they both acquiesced after they briefly met each other and discovered they had an instant and forceful physical attraction. While this didn’t work out so well for Isabetta with Doriano, her family was hopeful that Lorenzo would settle down and prove to be a good husband and father. That has so far proven true, and the de’ Rossi’s have had two children in succession, a daughter Novella (they gave her the middle name Giulianna in honor of Isabetta’s mother Giulietta) and now a newborn son Bastiano (whose middle name Leonello is after his father’s middle name Leonardo).
