There's nothing necessarily wrong with Valerie or Vanessa. They just do nothing for me. Also, I've only known one person named Valerie. This was in high school and she was a little odd so I suppose she has colored my impression of the name, especially since I've never met another.
Veronica is lovely and I like the history behind the name. If I were to use this for a dd, I'd think I'd call her Nicki which may seem boring to some, however, I like Veronica's tie to Nike. The nn Nica is nice as well but only in a culture that would pronounce it NEE-kah.
