I like it. It makes me think of the novel by William Faulkner called "As I Lay Dying." It's written in a stream of consciousness style and features a boy named Jewel.

It used to be on my PNL, mainly as a guilty pleasure. But now it seems kind of corny (and I vastly prefer the similar-sounding Julia, anyway), not just its meaning but also in its relation to the grocery store chain Jewel-Osco (major in the Midwest).

I like it for a boy.

Despite being a fan of both the singer and the sci-fi actress, I think the name is a bit much.

I just think of the singer. I much prefer Jul- names instead, which could always use Jewel as a nn.

It sounds dated and too generic. I prefer actual jewels used as names.
