[Opinions] Johna
A relative of mine has a friend, Johna, with whom she’s been good buddies since grade school. I would describe Johna as kind-hearted, caring, and a bit sassy in a playful way. I haven’t asked if she has a middle name, but I do know her first name is honoring and I think it suits her. As much as I enjoy girls having the honor of being named for a father or grandfather, etc. as well as the boys, on paper, Johna is not a feminine form I’m drawn to despite liking John.
So I decided to play and see if I could create combos that would improve my attitude. This is just for fun, not naming anyone. Here’s what I came up with...
Johna Bethany
Johna Clementine
Johna Elspeth
Johna Felicity
Johna Florentine
Johna Francine
Johna Gwendoline
Johna Melicent
Johna Rosanthe
Johna WinifredI sort of ran the gamut from fairly “normal” to “served with fresh lemon” to “fairytale” to Winifred. Winifred is a category unto herself; you can always count on Winifred. And, for me, Johna Winifred works best. Are there any you like? What would you pair with Johna?

Does it sound like John + uh, as in Give John a turn? Or like a version of Jonah?

Yes, pronounced as “John-uh”, rhyming with Donna.

It reminds me of jaundice and at first glance, it looks like a typo of Jonah. Not a fan.

Don’t blame you a bit. :)

I can't make up my mind about it. First I thought it was a version of Jonna, and then maybe a creative spelling of Jonah? I'm not a fan. Winifred, Felicity and Elspeth are the best combos.

My experiment failed to make me truly like the name, but I don’t feel it’s as awful as others seem to, probably due to the bearer I’ve met. Thanks for your input. :)

I like some of these middle names, but I'm afraid I find Johna so horrid there isn't a name good enough to balance it out. It screams "we wanted a son". I like John too, but why not go with Joan, Jane, or Jean for a girl instead?

Hehe, personally, I would choose another form if I wanted to honor a John or, if that was a dealbreaker for some reason, keep Johna to the middle slot. I imagine a lot of people don’t even realize Jane, etc. are variants of John. Maybe it’s because of the bearer I’ve met, but I don’t feel it’s as horrid as you find it. However, a middle name awesome enough to make me truly like it has eluded me. For me, the “we wanted a son” vibe comes into play when parents *don’t* choose a feminine form and instead give their daughter a masculine name such as, Elliott or Milo.

Hi Tiggs !!!I personally dislike Johna because it is too similar to Jonas in my opinion.Yes, Winifred is the best here. As Johna is quite out there (particular, at least) I would pair it with a more common and less elaborated middle name.Johna Kate
Johna Willa
Johna Wren
Johna Petra
Johna Louise
Johna Beatrix
Johna Ivette
Johna Ruth
Johna Gaelle
Johna Mia
Johna Samantha
Johna Patricia

I don’t care for it either because there just isn’t much there, sound-wise, and it feels rather abrupt. Of your suggestions, I think Johna Kate and Johna Wren work best. :)
