Definitely just Jack. John and Jack feel like separate names for me - I don't think you can nickname John into Jack without some mental gymnastics. You'll constantly be explaining it to people.
They're both good, solid, strong names. John feels a little more understated to me. Jack is a lot more fun. However, I don't think there's a bad choice between the two of them.

Thanks everyone!
It's been nice having some input on my John / John "Jack" / Jack dilemma. I think I'm keeping both John and Jack on my list for now.

John is my favorite of these three.
I like Jack, but it's so overused right now.
John nn Jack is nice, and then it gives him an option--maybe his class will be full of Jacksons who all go by Jack too and then he can be John and not have to be Jack H.
Jack by itself is meh, and also will be so dated as a full name in the future--like how Elizabeth is classic but Lisa and Betty aren't, y'know?

John, not nn Jack
I like any of them. Jack by itself is my first preference, John by itself is next. I think John nn Jack is alright but wouldn't use it myself because it's not a natural nickname for me (I've only ever read about Jack as a nn for John, never actually met a Jack who's really a John).
Just John. John has a warmth to the sound. Jack sounds cool, but feels a bit too brash for my liking.
I do like Jack though. My son is John after my grandfather John "Jack".

I like them both very much, but Jack always seems like a nn to me, and not a name in its own right.
John. I like the traditional aspect, and it leaves room for choice.
Jack
Simply Jack! A lovely name
