[Opinions] Scheherazade
One of my ultimate GPs is Scheherazade. I've met two women named Shahrazad (both from Pakistan), which I thought was beautiful, but never a Scheherazade. I've often wondered if it would be at all usable in Anglophone society. What would her nickname be? Would she be bullied in school? Is it just too dang long?***Please rate my personal name lists:www.behindthename.com/pnl/69381

I don't think it's usable in English-speaking countries, at least not as a first name. I can't think of a nickname, and while I don't think a Scheherazade would be bullied, her name would probably be mispronounced and misspelled a lot. It is very long too, but I think it could work with a short first name, like Lily Scheherazade or Ella Scheherazade.

I like it, but I think it's too long for a first name, and it has so many variations it would be difficult to spell.
The most obvious nickname is probably Sherry, which doesn't sound very good IMO. Maybe you could get away with Hera? Scheherazade nn Hera would be awesome. Zadie might work too.

I think Scheherazade is beautiful and fabulous - plus, it has a built-in melody that comes with it. But you're right about nicknames. That's a consideration that wouldn't have occurred to me. None of the obvious nicknames really appeal to me.

As long as the kid knows how to spell their own name and they have a handy nickname to fall back on (Hera would lovely), I don't see much of a problem. I've had plenty of people get my name wrong despite it only being 6 letters, so length isn't really what matters there, and I really don't care anymore who gets it wrong.I wouldn't give them a middle name though, filling out forms would be such a pain lol.

I agree with you that it's beautiful, but I don't think it's usable in Anglophone society. It will get butchered. It will be pronounced wrong, spelled wrong, forgotten. I think it will be judged very negatively. Again, it's too bad, because it's lovely, but I think the average English-speaking person will look at it like it's insane.
